SAMS Weather Preparedness Drill

Dear Parents/Guardians,

At Shaler Area Middle School, the safety and well-being of our students and staff is always our top priority. An Important part of maintaining a safe learning environment is regularly practicing our emergency procedures so everyone knows what to do if a situation were to occur.

On Thursday, February 26, Shaler Area Middle School will conduct a Shelter/Severe Weather drill as part of our ongoing emergency preparedness efforts. This drill allows students and staff to practice procedures used during severe weather situations, such as high winds or tornado warnings.

Our school follows the Standard Response Protocol (SRP), a district-wide approach that provides clear and consistent actions for different emergency situations. The Shelter action is specifically designed to keep students and staff safe during severe weather events. If you would like to learn more about the SRP, additional information can be found on the I Love U Guys Foundation website.

We are sharing this information ahead of time, so families are aware of the drill we will be conducting. We encourage you to talk with your child about the drill, reassuring them that it is simply practice and that being prepared helps everyone remain calm and safe.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership. While we hope to never experience an actual emergency, regular practice ensures we are prepared to respond appropriately if needed.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me through the Main Office at 412-492-1200, press 8, then 2506.

Thank you in advance,

Mr. Mitchell Shaw

Assistant Principal
