Fourth Week Recap and Reminders

September 13, 2024

Dear Shaler Area Families,

As we wrap up week 4 of the school year, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you for your continued support and understanding, especially regarding the safety-related concerns we faced this week. Your cooperation and communication have been vital in maintaining the safety and well-being of our students and staff. We also want to express our gratitude to our local, state, and federal partners who were instrumental in supporting our efforts. Their collaboration has been invaluable in ensuring a secure environment for our school community.

We would also like to thank the many parents who have reached out to provide their insights and suggestions for enhancing our safety and security measures. We take your feedback seriously and appreciate your partnership in working toward a safer school environment.

To further improve our communication during urgent situations, we will be modifying our emergency notification process. In the event of an emergency that requires immediate attention, our phone system will be used to reach you as quickly as possible. All alerts will continue to be shared via email and, when appropriate, posted on our website, app, and social media sites.

We understand that there may be information circulating on social media regarding recent incidents. While we respect the value of open communication, we encourage families to rely on official updates directly from the district to ensure you receive accurate and timely information. Keeping your contact information up-to-date is crucial for receiving these notifications. You can update your contact information through the Infinite Campus Parent Portal or by contacting your child’s school office directly. If you need assistance, please reach out to us at infinite@shalerarea.org.

Additionally, we want to inform you that we do not anticipate any PennDOT work in the district for the upcoming week. We will continue to monitor this situation and provide updates as needed.

We are also excited to invite you to our Annual Homecoming Celebration on Saturday, September 21! The day’s events will include:

  • Parade: 10:30 a.m. along Mt. Royal Blvd.
  • Picnic: 12:00 p.m., Shaler Area Middle School front lawn
  • Homecoming Football Game: 1:30 p.m., Shaler Area Titans vs. Woodland Hills

We hope to see you there to celebrate our school spirit and community pride!

Thank you once again for your continued support and partnership. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out. Have a wonderful weekend!

Warm regards,

Bryan E. O’Black, Ed.D
