Denise Erb, Craig Wells, and Brian Marree led a group of Shaler Area High School students to the “Spec Mix Bricklayers 500” at FNB Stadium. This event was facilitated by the Bricklayers and Allied Craftsman Local 9. Students had the opportunity to visit 12 learning stations where they could work with journeymen and apprentices to lay block, brick, tile, cultured stone veneer, set scaffolding, etc. Once students completed those activities, there was a timed competition to see bricklayers lay a 26-foot wall; with the winning pair of journeymen moving to a national competition in Las Vegas.
