Shaler Area Elementary School’s 26th Annual Titan Decathlon Championship produced a truly unforgettable moment when fifth-grader Kendall Craig delivered one of the most impressive performances in the event’s history. The championship, now in its 26th year, brings together the top 10 girls and boys from each grade level to compete across 10 athletic events — giving 60 of the school’s most talented young athletes a stage to showcase their abilities and push their limits.
Kendall rose to that occasion in a big way. Competing in the fifth-grade girls division, she claimed first place overall while breaking not one but two records along the way — in the softball throw and discus events. Her record-breaking softball throw was especially remarkable: she shattered the previous fifth grade girls record, which had stood since 2015, by more than 20 feet. She didn’t stop there — her throw also surpassed the sixth-grade record set just two years ago in 2023 by more than 5 feet, establishing a stunning new all-time record of 168.8 feet.
It was a performance that reflected not just athleticism, but the kind of drive and determination that the Titan Decathlon was designed to celebrate. Kendall’s accomplishments on that afternoon are ones that Shaler Area Elementary School will be talking about for years to come.
