Six students represented Shaler Area High School at the Pittsburgh Regional Science and Engineering Fair (PRSEF) on Tuesday, March 24, at the Kamin Science Center. PRSEF is the third-oldest fair in the United States, and the region’s premier science fair.
SAHS freshmen Evan Kenna, Carson Dabbs, Noah Fine, Nate McDermott, Declan Howe, and Tristan Huber were part of this exciting event. These students last participated in a science fair as elementary students at the GATE-sponsored elementary science fair. Demonstrating their increase scientific skills, teammates Kenna and Dabbs explored surface-area physics, titling their project “Shape v. Descent.” The team of Fine, McDermott, Howe, and Huber researched the physics of equilibrium in their project titled “Pendulum Swing.”
Students from over 75 schools participate each year, demonstrating their mastery of the scientific method in projects that could take from two to twelve months to develop. Foundations, universities, industries, corporations, and professional societies come together to host this experience for students in the region.
