Dear Shaler Area Families and Community Members,
As we welcome the arrival of spring and increased outdoor activity across our community, we would like to take a moment to share an important reminder regarding campus safety expectations throughout the Shaler Area School District.
During the school day, all district campuses are closed to the public. While we are proud to be a community-centered district and value the use of our facilities, limiting access during school hours is essential to maintaining a safe, secure, and focused learning environment for our students and staff. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in helping us prioritize safety.
Our school grounds may be available for public use outside of the instructional day, provided that no school-sponsored activities, practices, or events are taking place. We encourage community members to continue enjoying our facilities during appropriate times.
Please also be reminded of the following important guidelines:
- Pets on School Grounds: Pets are not permitted on district property at any time, with the exception of properly documented service animals or animals assisting law enforcement.
- Prohibited Substances: The use of alcohol or illegal drugs is strictly prohibited on all school property.
- Tobacco-Free Campuses: The Shaler Area School District maintains a tobacco-free environment. The use of all tobacco and tobacco-like products—including cigarettes, cigars, smokeless tobacco, and e-cigarettes/vapes—is prohibited in all areas of our campuses, both indoors and outdoors.
- Weapons Prohibition: In accordance with district policy and state law, weapons of any kind are strictly prohibited on school property.
These expectations are aligned with our ongoing commitment to providing welcoming, safe, and secure learning environments for every student and staff member across our district.
We are grateful for the continued partnership of our families and community members in upholding these expectations. Together, we can ensure that Shaler Area remains a place where all students can learn, grow, and thrive.
Sincerely,
Bryan E. O’Black, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
