Shaler Area High School junior Abby Maher competed in the Pittsburgh Public Theater’s Shakespeare Monologue & Scene Contest, a time-honored tradition that began more than 30 years ago with just 75 students. Now, hundreds of students participate from schools across the region! At the heart of the Shakespeare Contest remains a steadfast dedication to instilling a love for theater and appreciation for Shakespeare into the lives of young people.
Maher’s performance of a monologue of Timon from the play Timon of Athens earned her a place as one of only five finalists in the Upper Division Monologue (grades 8-12).
A group of seventh-grade students from Shaler Area Middle School received honorable mention for their performance of Act 1 Scene 5 of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Evelyn Mikan, Abbie Knoop, Andrea Weisser, Neva Cosentino, and Dahlia Power performed with heart and insight.
Congratulations to each of these students!
