Stephanie Strauss Named Shaler Area Director of Athletics

The Shaler Area Board of School Directors has appointed Stephanie Strauss as the district’s next Director of Athletics, effective February 2026. Dr. Bryan O’Black, Superintendent of Schools, shared, “This marks a significant and exciting step forward for Shaler Area as we continue to enhance opportunities for our student-athletes and strengthen Titan Athletics.”

One of only a handful of female Athletic Directors in the region, Strauss has a proven track record, bringing a deep and well-rounded background in athletics leadership. She currently serves as the Director of Athletics & Activities for the Penn Hills School District, where she has strengthened athletic operations, expanded student access to programs, and cultivated strong relationships with coaches, families, and community partners. “I’m looking forward to developing strong relationships with the student-athletes, coaches, and the entire Shaler Area community as we build upon the strong traditions and success of Shaler Area Athletics,” Strauss expressed.

In addition to her administrative experience, Strauss has spent several years as a collegiate head coach and assistant coach. Her time coaching both women’s and men’s programs at the NCAA level—including serving in leadership roles at the United States Naval Academy and Juniata College—has given her a unique perspective on athlete development, program culture, and the importance of teamwork and accountability. Her coaching career has allowed her to mentor student-athletes at all ability levels, empowering them to reach their full potential academically, athletically, and personally.

Strauss has roots in Shaler Area and is looking forward to serving the community. Her late grandfather, Cliff “Lefty” Fair, was a proud Shaler High School graduate and member of the Shaler Area Athletic Hall of Fame. Strauss will replace retiring Athletic Director Clinton Rauscher and will collaborate with him throughout the transition.
