The Shaler Area School District is investing in the safety of students through a review and enhancement of school zone signage. The Board of School Directors approved a contract with Trans Associates for evaluation and recommendations for flashing school zone signs.
Based on the guidance for the most effective implementation, the district will seek proposals in January of 2026, with a goal to award a contract in February and have new signage operational by the beginning of the 2026–2027 school year.
These changes would mirror the safety measures piloted at Scott Primary and Shaler Area Elementary School. Reserve Primary and Shaler Area High School benefit from dedicated driveways, so don’t have the same concerns with motorist safety along major thoroughfares.
Dr. Bryan O’Black, Superintendent of Schools, explained, “We are looking forward to increased visibility and safety for our students through additional signage and lights that remind drivers to maintain safe speeds during high-traffic times when students are present.”
