The Shaler Area School District is pleased to announce that Ben Yeckel has been named as Head Varsity Baseball Coach. Coach Yeckel brings keen coaching insights and a strong history with Shaler Area to the role.
A Titan himself, Yeckel was a four year starter for Shaler Area during his own high school career. He’s worked with Shaler Area for over 2 decades, serving as Varsity Assistant Coach and head Ninth-grade Coach. During his time as assistant coach, the team won 3 WPIAL titles, 1 state runner-up, and 1 state title.
Dr. Bryan O’Black, Superintendent of Schools, expressed, “We are thrilled to announce the appointment of Ben Yeckel as the next Head Varsity Baseball Coach for the Shaler Area Titans. Coach Yeckel brings a tremendous blend of leadership, instructional expertise, and a deep understanding of what it means to build a successful and student-centered athletic program. His commitment to fostering strong relationships, developing well-rounded athletes, and creating a culture of accountability and teamwork truly stood out throughout the interview process.
Coach Yeckel’s passion for the game—and for mentoring young people—aligns directly with our district’s mission to Engage, Empower, and Excel. We are confident that under his leadership, Shaler Area Baseball will continue to grow, compete at a high level, and represent our community with pride. We look forward to the exciting chapter ahead for our student-athletes and the Titan Baseball program.”
Coach Yeckel is committed to continuing to develop the baseball program at Shaler Area. He shared, “I am excited to get this opportunity because I will be only the fourth head varsity baseball coach in Shaler area history. I feel that this is my chance to really give back to the baseball community and teach the next generation. It’s an honor to have played for Jerry Matulevic, and I can’t begin to explain how much I learn from Bob Hinds and Brian Junker.”
