Recently, Shaler Area High School students Bella Minyo and Christian Mendoza attended the 27th annual youth achievement awards. Both students received the American Legion Music Medal Award. Christian also received the William White / Albert Schraepfer — Music Scholarship. The scholarship is named for Mr. White, who served in the Military Police while in the Army, then continued as a City of Pittsburgh Police Officer, ultimately retiring as Detective First Grade, as well as Mr. Schraepfer, who served in the 11th Airborne Infantry Division of the U.S. Army.
