Shaler alumni guest speaker

Shaler Alumni from the graduating class of 2003, Jamie Szramowski, was a guest speaker for a 4th grade team at Shaler Area Elementary School.  Mrs. Himes’ ELA students were reading a novel where the main character strived to be an entrepreneur since childhood.  Ms. Jamie Szramowski  shared her journey from Shaler student to business owner. She owns MIA New York Clothing. She always loved fashion and designing clothing as a young child. After graduating from Shaler, she attended the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City.  She shared her experiences, dedication, and hard work with the kids. Her story corresponds with the main character from our novel, “Lunch Money” from Andrew Clements.  The students enjoyed her story and went on to write about and illustrate what success means to them, as well as describing their “dream job”.  She recently earned the 2024 Earnie Award for excellence in design and retail.  She was awarded “Best Tween Designer” in the Earnshaw’s Magazine Publication. Earnshaw’s Kids is the number 1 media resource for brands, retailers, and childrenswear influencers, offering both thought-provoking publications and engaging social media commentary.  We were thrilled to have Jamie visit our school and inspire the kids to follow their dreams.
