Shaler Area School District is proud to celebrate Burchfield and Reserve Primary Schools for their recognition in the 2027 U.S. News & World Report Best Elementary Schools rankings.
Among 3,514 schools in Pennsylvania:
- Burchfield ranked 18th statewide—top 1%—and 12th in the Pittsburgh area.
- Reserve ranked 53rd statewide—top 2%—and 24th in the Pittsburgh area.
This recognition comes as the district continues its focused work to strengthen performance in core subjects. Early efforts have emphasized aligning curriculum, strengthening instructional practices, and using student learning data to identify needs and guide support. The introduction of HMH Into Reading this school year builds on that commitment by providing a consistent foundation for elementary literacy instruction.
“This recognition reflects the dedication of our staff, the hard work of our students, and the strong partnership of our families,” said Superintendent Dr. Bryan O’Black. “We have been intentional about strengthening the foundations of learning in our core subjects. As we build on this work, our focus remains on helping every student develop the skills and confidence to Engage, Empower, and Excel.”
