Dear Shaler Area Families,

As we wrap up another week of learning and growing together, I am excited to share this week’s Take 5—five highlights that showcase the people, programs, and moments that make Shaler Area such a special community.

The start of a new school year always brings renewed energy and excitement, and that spirit has been evident throughout our schools. From our students settling into new routines and building connections to our staff creating engaging learning experiences, there is already much to celebrate.

Student Spotlight: SAHS Student Guides
Forty students from Shaler Area High School volunteered to serve as Student Guides for freshman orientation. These students not only helped with practical logistics of the day, but also were warm, welcoming faces as incoming students began their high school career. It is deeply meaningful to see students engage and empower one another so they can excel in their academic journey. Thank you to each of our Student Guides for their leadership.

Safety Update – OpenGate Weapons Detection System
As a reminder we are implementing our  OpenGate Weapons Detection System at Titan Stadium entrances to ensure a safe environment for everyone attending. We ask for your cooperation and patience as we introduce this system. Click here to review our updated guidelines for entry into the Stadium.

We look forward to safe and spirited evenings under the lights as we cheer on our Titans! Thank you in advance for your support and understanding as we work together to keep our community safe.

Visitor Management
As a reminder, all visitors entering our schools are required to check in through our Raptor Visitor Management System. Please be prepared to present a valid photo ID upon arrival. Once cleared, visitors will receive a printed badge to wear during their time in the building. This process is an important part of ensuring the safety and security of our students and staff.

If you wish to meet with a principal or counselor, we kindly ask that you call ahead to schedule an appointment. Doing so allows us to provide you with the time and attention you deserve while minimizing disruptions to the school day.

Back-to-School Safety Tips
As we begin a new school year, keeping our students safe traveling to and from school is a responsibility we all share. I encourage families and community members to review the Back-to-School Safety Tips provided by the Shaler Township Police Department.

Whether students are walking, riding a bike, taking the bus, or being driven to school, a few extra moments of caution can make a meaningful difference. Drivers should remain especially alert in school zones, watch for students at crossings and bus stops, and always stop for school buses displaying flashing red lights and an extended stop arm. Pennsylvania law requires motorists to stop at least 10 feet from a stopped school bus in these circumstances.

Thank you to our families, staff, transportation team, local law enforcement, and community members for working together to help make every trip to and from school a safe one. Slow down, stay alert, and help us keep our Titans safe!
