April is Autism Awareness Month. On April 8, our OWL Squad members read books to each class. One of our OWL Squad members read the following on the morning announcements…
“April is Autism Awareness Month. During this month, it is important to remember that all people are different. People have different abilities, talents, challenges, and behaviors. Even though we all have differences, we need to remember that everyone deserves to be treated with kindness and understanding.

Some ways we can support people with different needs and abilities is to be patient if someone takes longer to respond. We can try to find things we have in common to build friendships. It is also important to respect personal space. And of course, we should always speak up if we see someone being excluded.

We are looking forward to visiting the classrooms today to share great stories that go along with Autism Awareness Month.”
