Return from Remote Instruction

February 2, 2026

Dear Shaler Area Families,

It was wonderful to welcome our students back to our school buildings today following last week’s weather-related disruptions. Overall, the return to in-person learning went very well, and our schools were once again filled with the energy, learning, and connections that make Shaler Area such a special community.

We did experience a small number of transportation challenges this morning, primarily in cul-de-sac communities where road and weather conditions remain more variable. Our Transportation Department is actively reviewing these concerns, and we will continue to work closely with ABC Transit and our municipal partners to address and resolve these issues promptly. Targeted communication was shared with families regarding the specific concerns that were brought to our attention. As shared last week,  if you have specific concerns regarding the safety of a particular stop, please contact the Shaler Area Transportation Office at 412-492-1200 x2824.

We would like to thank our staff, facilities teams, and school and district leaders for their tremendous efforts in preparing our buildings and ensuring a smooth and safe return for students. Their coordination, flexibility, and commitment to student safety and learning were critical to today’s success.

We also want to extend my sincere appreciation to our families for the extraordinary support you provided during last week’s remote instruction. Your patience, partnership, and support made a meaningful difference for our students during challenging circumstances, and we are truly grateful.

Thank you for your continued trust and partnership as we work together to support the success and well-being of every student.

Sincerely yours,

Bryan E. O’Black, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools

Brian P. Brown, Ed.D.
