Earlier in the school year, the Japanese National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, French Honor Society, and Art Honor Society gathered at the Shaler North Hills Library for the Around the World Event. At this event, each group created activities specific to the culture they study to engage with families in the community and share a passion for cultures and languages around the world. One of the activities that all the Honor societies and the community collaborated on was to create a mural on a canvas banner that combined all the different world languages studied at SAHS. The banner outline and design was created by Amy Scafuri, an artist who works in the Youth Services Department at the Shaler North Hills Library, but the children and students added their own creative drawings to the banner to make it a mix of everyone’s talent and passion for languages and cultures around the world. Since the event, the banner has been finished and will be hung up in the World Language hallway at SAHS to display the connection made between the community and the Japanese, Spanish, and French language programs and add a collaborative piece of art to the hallway.
