This spring, crocuses bloomed outside Shaler Area Middle School, planted as part of the Crocus Project, which seeks to have a yellow crocus bloom for each of the school children who died during the Holocaust. The project originated in Ireland in 2005. Mr. Reagle, shares, “Even though it’s been happening now for 20 years, the project still hasn’t yet reached 20% of its goal – that should put into perspective just how large a number the 1.5 million number of school-aged youths who didn’t survive.”
At Shaler Area Middle School, students planted crocuses along the walkway that leads up to the doors of the building by the office to represent students who would be walking into the school with a friend.
