Dear Shaler Area Families,
As we close out February, I want to take a moment to highlight the many incredible things happening across Shaler Area. From remarkable student achievements to meaningful community engagement, Shaler Area continues to shine, thanks to the dedication and hard work of our staff, students, and families.
A.W. Beattie Fish Fry & Open House
The A.W. Beattie Career Center Fish Fry will take place on March 14, 21, and 28, and April 4 and 11 from 11:00 a.m.–1:30 p.m. Dine-in and takeout options are available, but pre-orders are not accepted.
The A.W. Beattie Career Center welcomes all current and prospective students along with their family and friends to their spring open house! The event will be held at A.W. Beattie Career Center, 9600 Babcock Blvd, Allison Park, 15101 on March 6th from 5:15–8:00 p.m. For more information on all events, visit www.beattietech.com.
Glenshaw Century Club Scholarship Grant Applications Now Open!
The Glenshaw Century Club is hosting its Spring Craft Fair on Saturday, March 1, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, featuring over 60 crafters, raffles, a bake sale, and food to go. Free admission.
Scholarship grant applications are now open! Apply online by March 15, 2025. The club has awarded over $650,000 to Shaler Area seniors pursuing higher education. Visit the Glenshaw Century Club website for details.
2025–2026 School Calendar Approved
At the February 19th Board of School Directors meeting, action was taken to approve the annual school calendar for the 2025-26 school year. To view the calendar and associated dates, please visit: Shaler Area School Calendars.
Kindergarten Registration is Now Open
If your child is turning 5 years old on or before August 31, 2025, it’s time to register for kindergarten! Online registration is open at bit.ly/SASDregister, and in-person events will be held at primary schools and the district office. For more information, call 412-492-1200 ext. 8-2813.
Support the Sustainability Club’s Bottle Cap Collection
The Shaler Area High School Sustainability classes and club are collecting plastic bottle caps to create benches for Rainbow Raccoon Park in Millvale. They aim to collect 400 pounds by mid-April and currently have 200 pounds. Caps can be sent with high school students to Ms. Nilson’s classroom, dropped off at the high school (marked for Ms. Nilson), or delivered to Lemon Tree Coffee in Millvale at 112 East Sherman Street. Help them reach their goal!
Tickets Now on Sale for the Final Performances of the SAHS Spring Musical – Guys & Dolls
Tickets are available for Shaler Area High School’s production of Guys & Dolls, with performances on February 28, and March 1.

Congratulations to Hailey Sanders and Andrew Purucker!
Congratulations to Hailey Sanders and Andrew Purucker for their participation in the PMEA Western Region Orchestra, held at Richland High School this past Thursday through Saturday. Over 50 schools and 165 students from Western Pennsylvania took part in this prestigious event. The students performed a challenging program and should be commended for all their hard work.
A special congratulations to Hailey Sanders, who placed high enough in her seating audition to qualify for the PMEA All-State Orchestra, which will take place in April!
Congratulations to the Special Olympics Polar Plunge Team
We are so proud of the TITAN-ics, Shaler Area’s Polar Plunge Team, who were Freezin’ for a Reason in the Special Olympics Cool Schools Polar Plunge last Friday. This team, consisting of students, teachers, administrators, and paraprofessionals, jumped into the freezing waters outside of Acrisure Stadium to show support for the inclusion revolution & to raise funds for Special Olympics Pennsylvania. The TITAN-ics raised an impressive $6,229!
Congratulations to Hannah Sahr
Congratulations to Shaler Area School District senior Hannah Sahr, who earned 1st place in the SkillsUSA District Healthcare competition! Hannah is a second-year student in the Health and Nursing Sciences program and plans to attend CCAC for Nursing. Good luck at States!
Join Us for Coffee and Conversations
Join us Wednesday, March 5th, from 7:30 – 9:00 am, for Coffee and Conversations at Shaler Area Elementary School. These casual mornings are an invitation to get better acquainted with the leadership of our district. All are welcome and no R.S.V.P. is required.

There will be no school on Friday, March 7th due to an in-service day.
Summer Student Workers Needed
Shaler Area School District is accepting applications for summer student workers. Summer student workers assist custodial and maintenance staff in preparing schools for the next academic year. Applicants must be at least 15 years old by June 2, 2025. Work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with pay ranging from $11.00 to $11.25 per hour.
