Dear Shaler Area Families,
The Shaler Area School District is closely monitoring the weather forecast for Sunday night into Monday that could produce 3-6 inches of snow accumulation locally according to the National Weather Service (NWS). We are working closely with our Transportation Contractor, ABC Transit, and municipal partners to assess conditions and make the best decision for the safety of our students and staff. Please be prepared for the possibility of a two-hour delay or school closure. Once a decision is made, additional updates will be communicated on Sunday evening or Monday morning.
In the event of a school closure, the district will implement a Flexible Instructional Day (FID), utilizing a two-hour delay schedule to ensure a smooth transition to remote learning. This approach allows learning to continue without the need to make up the day later in the school year.
The class start times for a Flexible Instructional Day (FID) on a two-hour delay schedule will be as follows:
- High School: 9:18 a.m.
- Middle School: 9:40 a.m.
- Elementary School: 10:12 a.m.
- Primary Schools: 11:00 a.m.
For more details on our winter weather procedures, notification methods and student expectations for Flexible Instruction, please click here. If a FID is initiated, classroom teachers and school principals will share additional information and guidance to ensure a successful day of learning.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we prioritize the safety of our students and staff while maintaining learning continuity.
Sincerely,
Bryan E. O’Black, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
