Dear Shaler Area Families,
We want to make you aware of widespread messages circulating nationwide on various social media platforms, including Snapchat and TikTok, warning of potential threats of school violence. Several local districts and schools are mentioned, including Shaler Area. We immediately investigated this information with the Shaler Township Police Department and found the threat to be unfounded. However, out of caution, there will be an increased police presence throughout the district tomorrow. All Shaler Area schools will operate on a normal schedule.
We encourage you to use this opportunity to discuss internet safety and responsible communication with your students and the dangers of making or sharing threats on social media. Please be aware that any Shaler Area student found making threats will be subject to the disciplinary measures established by our student code of conduct.
School safety is our top priority, and it requires a strong partnership with our school community. If you see or hear something concerning—whether within our schools, on social media, or from your student—we encourage you to contact your school principal, district administration, or local law enforcement.
Each teacher, staff member, and administrator stands committed to providing a safe learning environment for all students and staff, and we appreciate your cooperation and support as we work together to maintain this mission.
Sincerely,
Bryan E. O’Black, Ed.D
Superintendent of Schools
