Coach Adametz and Coach Taylor

Shaler Area School District Names New Head Varsity Swimming Coach and Girls Wrestling Coach

The Shaler Area School District has added two coaches to the Titan roster for the upcoming year. Stephen Adametz will serve as the Head Varsity Swimming Coach. Robert Taylor will become the first Girls Wrestling Coach, as the wrestling program at Shaler Area High School expands to include a girls’ team.

An alumnus of SAHS, Mr. Adametz is no stranger to the Shaler Area community. He has previously served as Assistant Swimming Coach for Shaler Area High School and also works as the Assistant Pool Manager and Lifeguard for Shaler Township. Mr. Adametz notes that his familiarity with the Shaler Area community enables him to bring insight into his work with each athlete. He reflects, “I am excited to work with swimmers that I have been coaching since they were young, and I hope to expand upon their strengths, while also growing as swimmers inside and outside of the pool. In my first season, I would like to continue the success of last season by qualifying more swimmers for the WPIAL and PIAA Championships. I hope to grow our team and work with community partners, such as the Shaler Area community swim program and Shaler Area Swim Club to create an atmosphere of excitement surrounding swimming within Shaler Area.” Mr. Adametz also serves as a seventh-grade English teacher in the Hampton Township School District.

Mr. Taylor brings a proven track-record to this new role. For the last 7 years, Mr. Taylor has served as a Titan wrestling coach, first with Shaler Area Middle School and most recently with Shaler Area High School. Mr. Taylor also serves as Special Education Teacher for Shaler Area High School. Mr. Taylor shares, “I am incredibly honored and excited to be named the Head Coach for the inaugural Shaler Area High School girls wrestling team. This marks a historic milestone for the Shaler Area Athletic program as we introduce girls wrestling for the first time. Our team, the Shaler Area Lady Titans, will be paving the way for future generations. In our first year, my goal is to establish a solid foundation in wrestling that not only builds skills and knowledge but also inspires confidence in these young women. I aim to create a program that fosters pride, respect, and honor, both on and off the mat.”

Dr. Bryan O’Black, Superintendent of Schools, expressed, “The appointment of two coaches who not only have a wealth of experience, but a long history with Shaler Area athletes speaks to the dedication and commitment of Titan athletes and coaches. We look forward to a season of growth ahead.”
