Shaler Area School District Hires Two New Basketball Coaches

The Shaler Area School District has added two accomplished coaches to the athletic staff for the coming year. Tony Grenek will lead the Girls High School Varsity Basketball Team and Brandon Sensor will coach the Boys High School Varsity Basketball Team.

Clint Rauscher, Shaler Area School District Athletic Director, shared, “We are thrilled to have Coach Grenek and Coach Sensor join the Titan family. They bring stellar experience and a strong focus on character and skills development. I know our teams will grow in profound ways in the seasons to come.”

“Athletics in Shaler Area showcases the dedication, spirit, and pride of our community. We are fortunate to have outstanding coaching staff and are grateful to have Coach Sensor and Coach Grenek joining the ranks of Titans,” said Superintendent Dr. Bryan O’Black.

Coach Grenek comes to Shaler Area from North Hills High School where he led the girls’ basketball team to their first section title in 44 years. Prior to that he served as the head women’s basketball coach at Point Park for a decade, where he led the team to top 25 national rankings and three national tournament appearances. He has previously served as Associate Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Seton Hill University and Head Men’s Basketball Coach for Butler Community College.

Grenek expressed, “I am excited for the challenge of building a championship-caliber girls’ basketball program, and I get to do it with a staff of great people who I have either coached before or who are positive members of the community. It’s always exciting meeting a new group of student athletes and teach them the game of basketball and life lessons along the way. Shaler Area has some excellent athletes and it’s close to my home. Hopefully, the community will embrace us as well because we are going to work hard and have fun!”

Coach Sensor has served as the Head Boys Basketball Coach for Chartiers Valley since 2018. While Sensor was at Chartiers Valley High School, the team had an overall record of 147 wins and 73 losses in 9 seasons, multiple WPIAL Semi-final appearances and were District Champions for the 2019–2020 season. Before coming to Chartiers Valley, Sensor was the Head Boys Basketball Coach at Cape Coral High School in Cape Coral, Florida, and Assistant Varsity Basketball Coach at Lehigh Senior High School, also in Florida.

Sensor shared, “I am excited to coach right here in the community that I live in with my wife and four kids! I’m also really excited to get to work with the guys! Last year’s group of seniors were very talented and they had an outstanding season. I know this next group is anxious for their opportunity to show what they can do and we’re going to work hard as we prepare for next season!” Sensor shared his game plan for the coming year, noting, “In this first season, we are really focused on a few things: 1) having a strong team culture, 2) seeing growth and improvements individually and as a team, and 3) we want to win basketball games! I believe if we buy into those first two, we have a good chance of being very competitive and adding to the win column!”
