Dear Shaler Area Families,

As we wrap up another productive week and feel fall finally settling in, I’d like to take a moment to share important updates and highlights from across the district. This week, we’ve had the opportunity to celebrate student success, engage our community in planning for the district’s future, and continue creating enriching experiences that empower our students. Together, we are shaping a bright future for Shaler Area—one that is grounded in academic excellence, community involvement, and career readiness.

Here are just a few highlights from the week:

Building for Tomorrow FAQ Available
As part of our ongoing effort to keep families informed and engaged in the Building for Tomorrow initiative, we’ve created a new Family FAQ. This resource provides clear, easy-to-understand information about the district’s facilities planning and upcoming grade reconfiguration.)

You can view the full FAQ on our district website to learn more about how we’re planning for the future of Shaler Area.

A.W. Beattie Road Show
This week, our middle school hosted a fantastic opportunity for our 8th-grade students. On Thursday, teachers and students from A.W. Beattie engaged with our 8th-graders, sharing information on various programs such as health science, carpentry, welding, dentistry, HVAC, and automotive technology. Students participated in hands-on experiences, gaining a deeper understanding of career opportunities available through Beattie and beyond high school. We are proud to offer such engaging activities that align with our commitment to career readiness. For more information on A.W. Beattie and the programs offered, we encourage families to reach out to their child’s school counselor.

Staff Spotlight: Mrs. Rydzak and Mrs. Probeck
Mrs. Rydzak and Mrs. Probeck have spent almost all of their careers at Marzolf Primary School, first as Reading Specialists, and now as beloved K-1 classroom teachers. Both provide excellent leadership and skill in supporting colleagues and Marzolf’s youngest learners in the area of teaching our core Reading and English/Language Arts curriculum. In addition, Michelle and Lisa act as reliable and consistent liaisons between our staff and the Marzolf Parent-Teacher Organization. They are two of the most positive people you could ever imagine and are relentless in finding the good in everyone—students, parents, colleagues, and community!

Student Spotlight: Giada Colamarino
Congratulations to Shaler Area High School freshman Giada Colamarino was selected by Prep Softball as one of The Best 2029 Bats: Hitters Who Can Change a Game. She was also recognized nationally as one of the top five best hitters in the country for the upcoming class of 2029 members. Giada plays with the Pittsburgh Lady Roadrunners in addition to the SAHS varsity team. Gilda leads through example with determination, focus, and team spirit.

As we move further into the fall season, I remain deeply appreciative of the partnership, pride, and spirit that make Shaler Area such a special community. Each week continues to showcase the incredible achievements of our students, the dedication of our staff, and the unwavering support of our families. Together, we exemplify what it means to Engage, Empower, and Excel—each and every day.
