Shaler Area schools are proud to partner with The Highmark Caring Place to provide support to children who are affected by the death of a loved one.
The Caring Place began in Pittsburgh in 1996. Thousands of community members are helped by the Caring Place each year at no cost through peer support programs, and education, consultation, and referral services.
Reserve Primary School teacher Michelle Elias shares, “Reserve has been supporting the Caring Place for over 20 years. It is important for students to know that grief can be expressed in many ways and that all feelings are okay. By supporting the Caring Place, the students are supporting peers and are also learning how to cope with different feelings/situations themselves. We want our families/community to know that the Caring Place is out there if ever it is needed for them.”
