No Shave November Comes to Shaler Area High School

Educators at Shaler Area High School used November to expand awareness of prostate canister through participating in No Shave November. “This November, 21 of our bravest Shaler Men put down the razors and picked up the challenge—all to raise money (and a little facial hair) for the American Cancer Society!“ explains Shaler Area High School Art Teacher Jeff Frank, who is organized the fundraiser.

A banner emblazoned with the budding beards on 21 teacher and staff member faces hung in the hall of the high school. Students and staff members contributed to support this cause—and vote for their favorite teacher or custodian’s effort at the same time.

According to the American Cancer Society, about 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during their lifetime. In 2025, ACS estimates there will be 313,780 new cases of prostate cancer and 35,770 deaths from prostate cancer, underscoring the importance of research into treatment options.

On December 2nd, participants showed off their final beards. Prizes were awarded for stand-out beards. Congratulations to:

  • The Luscious Bristles (Best Overall Beard): Scott Krenn
  • The Dandy Dirt Neck (Top Neck Beard): Zach Fisher
  • Santa’s Beard is Coming to Shaler (Whitest Beard): Kevin Mosbacher
