Members of the Shaler Area School District are coming together to ensure​ everyone​ has plenty to be grateful for this Thanksgiving season. There is a student-led initiative to support families in need. Shaler Area Elementary School Student Ambassadors in cooperation with North Hills Community Outreach will be collecting canned goods to ​provide families ​with a Thanksgiving meal. Student Ambassadors handled publicity in school, explaining the service project to each homeroom class. Students will then collect canned goods and gift cards, following a list of needed items provided by NHCO. Any elementary student can bring items at lunchtime and will get a ticket for each donation. Following the close of the food drive, one winner for each grade level will win a gift card—purchased with donations from the Student Ambassadors. From beginning to end, this project is driven by students and shows that care for others is flourishing among the youngest members of our community.
