Take 5 with Dr. O'Black

September 26, 2025

Dear Shaler Area Families,

Each fall, Homecoming at Shaler Area brings with it a sense of excitement and tradition that is truly unique to our community. It is more than just a game or a parade—it is a time when current students, alumni, families, and neighbors come together to celebrate the spirit of Titan Pride that unites us across generations.

This special tradition reflects what makes our district and community so remarkable: the deep connections, the shared memories, and the pride we all feel in being part of Shaler Area. Homecoming is not only a chance to cheer on our teams, but also an opportunity to reconnect, celebrate, and honor the legacy of those who came before us while inspiring the next generation of Titans.

We invite you to join us in this celebration of community, tradition, and Titan spirit. Together, let’s continue to build on the moments that Engage, Empower, and Excel for every learner.

  • Homecoming Parade: See the creativity of our students and the enthusiasm of our community in the Homecoming Parade, kicking off at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 27th, 2025. The parade will process down Mt. Royal Boulevard, starting at St. Matthew Parish, St. Bonaventure Campus, and concluding at the Central Office.
  • Community Picnic: Immediately following the parade, join us for a picnic on the front lawn of the Central Office and Middle School starting at noon. Titans past and present will enjoy a variety of fun activities, including food booths operated by SASD boosters, inflatables, pony rides, Shaler Area clothing sales, and more!
  • Football Game: The day will culminate with our Homecoming football game against Penn Hills at 1:30 p.m. at Titan Stadium. Come cheer on our team as they showcase their hard work and dedication on the field!

BUILDING FOR TOMORROW
We invite you to be part of this important conversation by joining us for a Community Forum on Monday, September 29, 2025 at 6:00 p.m. in the Shaler Area High School Auditorium. At this forum, we will share details of the initiative, including the proposed transition to a K–5 neighborhood school model, middle school programming for Grades 6–8, and opportunities to reinvest in our remaining school sites.

With Titan Pride,

Bryan O'Black Superintendent of Schools
