The Shaler Area School District has been recognized with the Best Communities for Music Education designation from The NAMM Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education. Now in its 26th year, the Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement in efforts to provide music access and education to all students.
To qualify for the Best Communities designation, Shaler Area answered detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music program and community music-making programs. Responses were verified by school officials and reviewed by the leading arts educational research firm, WolfBrown.
The Shaler Area School District is committed to empowering students in all aspects of their education, including through a dynamic music program. Dr. Bryan O’Black, Superintendent of Schools, shared, “We are incredibly proud that Shaler Area has once again been recognized as one of the Best Communities for Music Education—now for the eighth consecutive year. This honor reflects the outstanding work of our music educators, the passion and talent of our students, and the continued commitment of our families and community. Music is an essential part of who we are, and this recognition reinforces our deep pride in the role the arts play in shaping a vibrant, well-rounded educational experience. It’s another example of how we Engage, Empower, and Excel together as a district.”
