Shaler Area School District Appoints Two New Assistant Principals

At their August 14th meeting, the Shaler Area School District Board of Directors approved the hiring of two new assistant principals who will enhance instruction in our community.

Cory Sakolsky joins Shaler Area Elementary School as Assistant Principal. Mr. Sakolsky began his career as a social studies teacher in Butler and his approach continues to be informed by his classroom experience. He has most recently served as Assistant Principal at Highlands Middle School (Grades 5-8). Mr. Sakolsky brings a proven track record of implementing Positive Behavioral Intervention and Support (PBIS) and social-emotional learning programs. Mr. Sakolsky reflects, “When working with young learners, especially at an elementary-school level, creating a nurturing and inclusive environment is vital for the development and well-being of the students. I firmly believe when everyone within the school community feels valued, supported, and connected it drives a positive atmosphere where students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.”

Shaler Area Middle School welcomes Mitchell Shaw as Assistant Principal. Mr. Shaw comes to Shaler Area from Highland Middle School, where he served as the Dean of Students. He worked as an English teacher, Lead Cyber Teacher, Varsity Football Coach, and Dean of Students in the Butler School District. These experiences shaped his constructive and student-centered approach to education and administration. Mr. Shaw explains, “One distinct value that drives my work is that I always operate with a ‘people first’ mindset. I firmly believe that valuing all students and staff and making decisions that put people first is a recipe for success and the best way to create a positive and welcoming school environment.”

Dr. Bryan O’Black, Superintendent of Schools, shares, “Mr. Sakolsky and Mr. Shaw are strong additions to our high-caliber staff of principals. Our team brings together dedicated and insightful leaders to support our teachers, invest in our students, and care for our community. We look forward to the ways that Mr. Sakolsky and Mr. Shaw will strengthen instruction and growth for our middle learners.”
