This past Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, three Shaler Area High School band students participated in the PMEA District 1 Band Festival, held at Hampton High School. After a competitive audition process, two of these students earned a spot to advance to the next level: the PMEA Region 1 Band Festival, taking place March 6-8, 2025, at Ambridge Area High School.

The Region 1 Band Festival includes student musicians from districts across Mercer, Lawrence, Beaver, Butler, Allegheny, Washington, Westmoreland, Greene, and Fayette Counties. This year’s guest conductor will be Colonel Michael J. Colburn, Music Director and Conductor of the Me2 Orchestra/Burlington, music faculty member at the University of Vermont, and former director of “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band, as well as music advisor to the White House.
