Recently students in Ms. Himes’ class enjoyed a visit from guest speaker Jamie Szramowski. She shared her journey from Shaler student to business owner. She owns MIA New York Clothing. She always loved fashion and designing clothing as a young child. After graduating from Shaler Area High School, she attended the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. She shared her experiences, dedication, and hard work with the kids. Her story corresponds with the main character from the novel, “Lunch Money” from Andrew Clements, which students have been reading. The students enjoyed her story, and went on to write about and illustrate what success means to them, as well as describing their own dream job.
