High School Students Share Love of Japanese Language with Marzolf

A huge thank you to the Shaler Area High School Japanese Club for visiting Marzolf Primary and helping our first-graders learn how to read and write their names in Japanese! They took the time to translate each student’s name onto special bookmarks and taught them simple origami folds. This experience was the perfect addition to our first-graders’ studies on Japan and Japanese artist Hokusai. Their Japanese names will even be added to their artwork—prints of volcanoes inspired by Mt. Fuji surrounded by cherry blossoms, in honor of the cherry blossoms gifted to the U.S. from Japan that are in Washington D.C. We love this collaboration and the amazing learning opportunities it brings!
