The District is pleased to announce the following leadership transitions:

Superintendent of Schools:   Shaler Area School District Board of School Directors named Dr. Bryan O’Black as its next Superintendent of Schools.  Dr. O’Black brings over 17 years of experience as an administrator—15 of which have been in Shaler Area, serving as Technology Director (2009–2012), Curriculum Director (2012–2015), Assistant Superintendent (2015–2021), and Deputy Superintendent (2021–present) with the Shaler Area School District.  In the coming months, Dr. O’Black will be hosting a variety of events for students, staff, and community members designed to foster ongoing dialogue about the educational issues and concerns that are most important to the school district community.

Assistant Superintendent:  Dr. Brian Brown joins our Executive Leadership Team as Assistant Superintendent.  Dr. Brown comes to Shaler Area from the Penn Hills School District, Mr. Brown served as the Assistant to the Superintendent for Technology; Innovation, Safety and Security and Director of Technology and Innovation; and Associate Principal. He has also worked as a Principal for the Allegheny Intermediate Unit, where he implemented a celebrated PBIS system.

Director of Human Resources: Ms. Karrie Dunn joins our Executive Leadership Team as Director of Human Resources.  Ms. Dunn brings high caliber professional experience, with a career spanning education, tech, healthcare, and hospitality. She has served as Director of Human Resources for Wyndham Pittsburgh University Center as well as Cheek Lodge and Spa. Most recently, she was the Vice President of Human Resources for EdisonLearning.

Elementary School Assistant Principal: Cory Sakolsky joins Shaler Area Elementary School as Assistant Principal.  Prior to joining Shaler Area, Cory served as Assistant Principal at Highlands Middle School (Grades 5-8), managing staff and leading initiatives like PBIS and a social-emotional learning curriculum.

Middle School Assistant Principal: Shaler Area Middle School welcomes Mithcell Shaw as our new Assistant Middle School Principal.  Mr. Shaw comes to Shaler Area after serving as Dean of Students at Highlands Middle School (Grades 5-8), focusing on student-centered discipline practices.
